“FATHER” OF STREETWEAR
Stussy was founded in 1980 by Shawn Stüssy, who is a professional surfer and known for his punk rock / new wave inspired artwork. There was a great demand for Shawn’s decorative surfboards, and as a substitute, he started producing graphic T-shirts with his distinctive signature as a logo. He spent his summers in the waves while the winters were reserved for skiing in Mammoth Mountain (California). His authentic lifestyle, as well as his ever-creative and inspiring approach to print and fit, has earned him the nickname “Father of Streetwear,” and made Stussy that day as exciting and relevant as 1980’s when Shawn sold his first surfboard.
