Anyone who has looked at a jacket has probably heard of Gore-Tex, but what exactly is Gore-Tex? Here at packyard, we have a close relationship with gore-tex and will try with a few words to both tell and describe what Gore-Tex actually is?

Gore-tex is one of the most recognized brands within outdoor, but in recent times with the development that people want both a waterproof and a "nice" jacket, more and more brands have started to use the Gore-Tex membrane as part of their range of jackets. Gore-Tex is a waterproof and windproof membrane made of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). Gore-Tex is also an elastic, strong and extremely durable material, even though the membrane is thin. The membrane means that it is completely waterproof, but at the same time that the Gore-Tex quality also allows steam from the water to move under the jacket, which means that you can breathe in the jacket.

Gore-Tex was invented in 1969 by Bob Gore, he invented a way to turn polytetrafluoroethylene into a material called PTFE which ended up giving a unique combination of features. Before Gore-Tex, there were jackets that were breathable and waterproof jackets, but with the invention of Gore-Tex, the two elements were combined to the great delight of both extreme sportsmen and the man on the bike on his way to work. In Gore-Tex Clothes or shoes, all seams will always be taped with a specially developed tape that prevents water from getting through, and you will see this on the jackets we make in Gore-Tex - Rokkvi Shell Gore Tex Black & Fyn Shell Kit White from Norse Projects, both of which are made in Gore-Tex, we also have their Technical Sports Cap & Bucket Hat, all of which are also made in Gore-Tex.

Gore-Tex infinium

If, on the other hand, you don't need a waterproof jacket but a jacket that just wants to take the wind, then we can highly recommend Jens Gore-Tex Infinium and, as the name probably reveals, the jacket is made of Gore-Tex, but not in the classic gore-tex quality. but in their Infinium line. The big difference here is that while the classic Gore-Tex, as previously mentioned, is both waterproof and windproof, Gore-Tex infinium is made for when the weather is dry, so they are completely windproof, but only water-repellent. This makes the Jens Gore Tex jacket in a nice green color the perfect spring jacket that is easy to use and provides the right protection for when the weather is drier.
